Referring to the advent of technological interventions after the COVID-19, Justice Gavai said the Supreme Court started virtual hearings within 48 hours of lockdown.

Supreme Court judge Justice B R Gavai on Friday inaugurated the country’s first exclusive Digital Court for handling cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

At an event held at the High Court auditorium here, Justice Gavai also launched an online dispute resolution platform, We-Solv Virtual Solution Maker, which will facilitate online deliberations by all the stakeholders.

He also inaugurated a Model Digital Court Room conceived by the Kerala High Court, specifically designed to overcome the limitations of traditional court rooms.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who also attended the event, inaugurated the Special Courts in Ernakulam and Alappuzha which are dedicated to handle cases under the SC/ST(Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the BUDS Act (Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, 2019) respectively.

The Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd (TIAL) said that the flight services would be suspended from 4.45 pm to 9 pm on April 11.

The Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd (TIAL) said that the flight services would be suspended from 4.45 pm to 9 pm on April 11.

It said that the updated timings of the flights are available with the respective airlines.

“The runway at Thiruvananthapuram Airport is closed twice a year to allow the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple procession to pass through. This tradition, which involves taking the route to Shangumugham Beach for the idols’ ritual bath, dates back centuries,” the airport said in a Facebook post.

Aloshious, however, told a TV channel that she would tell about her experience and cooperate with the police if the latter approached her as part of any enquiry.

Malayalam actor Vincy Aloshious, who has alleged that her co-actor Shine Tom Chacko used drugs on the sets of a movie on Thursday said she will not lodge a complaint with the police on the issue.

Aloshious, however, told a TV channel that she would tell about her experience and cooperate with the police if the latter approached her as part of any enquiry.

Chacko has not yet commented on the issue.

Aloshious said complaints have been registered with the Kerala Film Chamber and Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) and they can take appropriate action.

The actor said an uncomfortable situation was created by the artiste who was on drugs on the sets of the yet-to-be released Malayalam movie.

The Royal Navy’s crown jewel F-35B Lightning II stealth fighter jet, which has been parked in the open in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram for six days, will not be moved inside a hangar, as requested by the British navy, sources said.

The American-origin F-35B – the most expensive fighter jet in terms of programme cost – is packed with advanced technologies that Britain may not want others to take a closer look at, sources said, adding this could be one of the reasons why the Royal Navy declined Air India’s offer to allocate hangar space to park the aircraft, away from the elements.

It is highly likely that concerns over “protected technologies” may have delayed any decision on the Royal Navy’s part to take the F-35B inside a hangar.

While they have so far declined the offer, they may consider moving it inside the hangar for a final inspection and repair, sources said.

An attempt was made to derail the Kalindi Express by placing the LPG cylinder on the tracks.

The train hit the cylinder before coming to a screeching halt on Sunday morning. Due to being hit by the train, the cylinder was thrown away from the tracks, they said.

A man allegedly stabbed his mother to death while she was sleeping in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. The man wanted to transfer the house’s ownership from his mother’s to his name in order to marry a girl he has been seeing, the police said.

Pramila Singh, 55, lived with her son Raja Singh, 28, who earned his living as a farmer.

Ten days ago, Pramila Singh suffered burn injuries in a small incident at home, after which she went to live at her daughter’s house, the police said.

“Raja is in a relationship with a girl from the village. Their marriage was fixed a few days ago,” police officer Mahesh Kumar said.

“The girl’s family put a condition for the marriage that Raja should have the house in his name. His mother, however, did not want to transfer the house ownership to her son,” Mr Kumar said.

Raja came to his sister Preetu’s house at 9.45 am on Wednesday and went to the room where his mother was sleeping. Once inside, he stabbed her several times with a knife, the police said.

Preetu came running on hearing Pramila’s scream, and found her mother bleeding on the floor, the police said. She called the police immediately.

Kanpur Building Fire: According to police, neighbours first noticed huge flames and thick smoke emanating from the building on Sunday night and alerted fire station and police.

A 45-year-old man and his wife died in a massive fire that broke out at a five-storey building in Chamanganj area of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, police said on Monday.

The police said that seeing the intensity of the blaze the couple’s three daughters — Sara (15), Simra (12), and Inaya (7) — are also feared dead.

The bodies of Mohammad Danish and his wife Nazneen Saba (42) were recovered from the fourth floor of the building, officials said.

They said that it took firefighters hours to gain access to the fourth floor, where the couple’s bodies were discovered.

The gruesome murder of a man in Kanpur has revealed multiple layers of conspiracy, an extramarital affair, and a modus operandi that matches partly with the Meerut killing that had sent shockwaves through the country two months ago.

Dharmendra Pasi, a resident of Laxmankheda village, was killed by his wife Reena and nephew Satish, who were in an extramarital relationship, the police said.

On May 10, Reena had mixed sleeping pills in Dharmendra’s food. After he fainted, she smashed his head with a heavy door frame. During the murder, only the victim’s 75-year-old hearing-impaired mother was present in the house.

The conspiracy came to the fore as the cops went through the accused’s call details and the forensic investigation. The police initially rounded up three suspects. But their focus shifted towards the family after they found blood stains inside their house, including the courtyard and the bathroom.

To save themselves, Reena and Satish had named three other men before the cops, trying to frame them in what would appear as a family feud. But the police saw through their lies.

Reena and Satish’s call details revealed they spoke over the phone for long hours. Obscene photographs were also recovered from their phones. When interrogated, Reena confessed she had an affair with her nephew. Her husband already had a whiff of their relationship, she told the cops.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahesh Kumar said that two weeks before the murder, the victim had a fight with some people. Based on this, two people were arrested for his killing.

“But further probe revealed an affair between the victim’s wife and nephew. The victim had come to know about their relationship and had fought over it with his wife. After that, it emerged that they had conspired to kill him,” said Mr Kumar.

A case under the Cow Slaughter Act has been registered against the science teacher, who allegedly showed the brain to Class 10 students on June 24.

Police said the case was registered following a complaint by the school’s Headmaster.

The incident triggered protests by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and other groups, who accused the teacher of “hurting religious sentiments”. They submitted a memorandum to education department officials demanding action.
